Truck (in one take)

ok, so “truck” by The Octopus Project is the most infectious song I know. It’s killing me inside. It’s addicting to me like sex. Its’ 7/8 harmony, with the occasional 8/8 bar, is in my head ALL THE TIME. Always, I am thinking about it’s parts quantified in every pattern…. It’s a crazy obsession…. I’m crazy.

Now my laptop of over 5 years has fried on me. My stepmother gave me her powerbook because she wasn’t using it anymore. That means I got garage band. I’ve been up for a week playing with it and finally I decided to record the song that itches me all the time.
This was going to be something different though. I wanted to make it sound like I was horny for the song and need to record it fast to revel in its… harmonies (actually true), so this song was recorded using only the first take of each part. They are:
  1. one fuzzy guitar
  2. one clean guitar
  3. one guitar pitch shifted an octave down to simulate the bass part
  4. one electric keyboard
  5. a track for the cymbals
  6. a track for the kick
  7. a track for the snare
I had to do the drums separately because the only machine I have to do it is my BR-900 and the buttons on it are TERRIBLE. I didn’t have my bass with me so I simulated it. I admit that the keyboard part was not done in this session but from a previous time I recorded this song (yeah, I’m crazy). It was the first take of that session, though…
…almost forgot to mention that I also cheated a little. I recorded the key part while listening to the song so it’s exactly the same tempo even when the tempo variably changes from time to time.
